Today is Christmas Day and it is also the 14th day that Darrell has left us. He fought courageously for 6 months and decided to take the life of ease which is to return to the Lord. His illness took us all by surprise and I think the one who is most surprised by it was himself.
His journey reinforced my belief that all of us are meant to have a life of ease. When we have too much stress in our lives, get too caught up in the nuts and bolts in life, have too little time to focus on our spiritual side, we introduce dis-ease.
Saying that, I think there are many things that I am very proud of my partner Darrell Lim. Throughout his illness, I come to see how he has touched many lives and how he has mentored the people who has worked for him. One said that he was ‘the greatest boss on earth’ and others’ said that they have chosen a sales career because of him. He has nurtured many sales leaders and future sales leaders in different countries. He was passionate about his job and he enjoyed what he did for a living. How many people can say that about their career? He loved to wheel and deal and enjoyed that adrenaline rush of quotas and sales strategy. He was living a life of ease (even though there were pretty rough times he had to go through, i.e., financial crisis and green field start-ups etc).
As a family member, he had always sought harmony at home. He focused on the values of each relationship rather than on the nitty gritties of who is wrong and who is right. He learnt to appreciate the goodness of everyone around him. He loves a good meal surrounded by family members and cherished a good laugh as dessert. His upbringing has been humble and that has taught him to be discerning about money and ensured that the family has a safety net. He was a caring father and imparted life values through stories that he made up every night when he had to tell Joy, our daughter bed time stories. As a husband, he is understanding and supportive. No words can describe our close friendship and support for each other, and I suspect what we had were one of the rarest kinds of relationship in this fast paced instant gratification world. I am grateful that God gave him to me as my life partner.
Darrell, I love you and will always do. I know when my work here is done, I will see you again in heaven. Till we meet again, have fun in heaven telling stories to all the lucky souls around you.
Your life partner, Ben.
Thanks for your sharing. His humility has touched me! Keep in touch and take care!
Warmest regards

Thanks Steve for all your thoughts. Joy has just returned to school today and we are all missing Darrell terribly but also trying to put on a brave face and move forward. So far, Joy gets the prize for being able to deal with it the best with her fond memories and jovial personality inherited from her father.
Keep warm in Shanghai. Felicia

Hi Felicia,
Just come to know of your blog!
My sincerely gratitude to Darrell, once my schoolmate, my boss and a good friend, for sharing with me the importance of building your ‘career wealth’, but only today, I come to understand the real beauty is more on helping the next guy or gal to see beyond what it is today.
Stay in touch!
